This is the last prologue before the story starts. Hurray! It was originally only two strips but it’s been expanded to four. One thing I’m learning about doing strips is that I may be trying to squeeze in too much in one go. That, and you may have noticed a lack of dialogue. There isn’t much in the prologues, I admit. They were designed to be short but tell a lot. I hope I did okay in that regard.
This prologue for Jack is a prime example of the benefits of research. Jack was such a boring character that no one would play him in the campaign without coercion. When looking up “Jack Be Nimble”, I found that the most likely origin is a combination of the celebration of Candlemas Day and a notorious 16th century pirate named Black Jack, known for his skill at eluding authorities. So, boring Jack became an exciting brigand– a combo of the jumping and the pirating– plus one other hidden talent you’ll soon see. Enjoy!
When we first started with Jack I have to say that NO one wanted to play him. He looked like a gymnast with a flaming fairy head.
So after a little research we decided to do a character model revamp. It is absolutely amazing what a good setup on clothing and background can do to make a character interesting to people.
know its a bit late to be saying this but ya could of done em as spring heel jack
Or Jack the Ripper, or Jack Frost, or Jack O’Lantern; in fact, wouldn’t we all agree that out of all the cool characters in the world, the majority have the name Jack :)?
Or Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack the Giant Slayer…
I’m going to have to point out though, Jack the Ripper actually existed…
