Got a few new things onsite: logo, background, some holiday flare. Hope you are all liking the changes around here. If not, speak up! To quote Johnny 5: “Need input!”
For this strip, as far as I’ve been drawing Shards, Humpty is by far the easiest to draw. The original strips for his prologue were all done as horizontal and not vertical strips so I had to change the formatting of these a bit but it gave me a chance to look at a strip I drew six months ago and fix them up a bit. Just a little. I wanted to keep the rough texture of Humpty’s prologue. It has a distinct art style, like something out of the Annie comics. I like those blank eyes in Humpty’s world. It was fun designing them.
And probably this week I’ll start putting up character designs, head tests, and a lot more art to really buff up the site. Woohoo!
I see the homeless man asking a giant egg for food, and I can’t help but think “Cannibalism!”
Hi, fellow webcomicer here (although not at all as popular as you are). Thought I’d drop in and say my two cents.
Firstly, love the comic. The display of characters, layout, and facial expressions are very good. You’ve captured the essence of a cracked egg spectacularly in this page.
Secondly, you seem to be suffering from something I’ve been struggling against for ages; the blank. For example, the ground in this page is completely white. It slightly distracts from the important parts of the story (ie Humpty and the other characters). Some shadows or scuffmarks or something on the ground would make it seem more natural and less distracting. Just thought I should let you know, since it’s the unusual parts of an image that draw the most attention, and since the walls are so well drawn, it makes the ground seem out of place.
Also, little fact for you and anyone reading this; the rhyme of Humpty Dumpty was actually about a cannon. A BIG one. How cool is that?
… Oh, right. Love the comic. I’ll give it another week to enjoy your comic before I like on Facebook, though. TWC shall receive regular votes for you. <3
Hello there, AquaDivider! Always nice to see new fans! Um, we’re popular? Weee!! Thanks for that:) And for the input on the comic. The prologues are unusual because they were drawn first before I put the comic online and I wanted to keep them kinda archaeic looking to some degree (that and i’m lazy *g*) but you do raise a point about the ground. I intentionally added no shadows to Humpty’s realm but I should have included dust bits and rocks or whatnot. Now that you said it, the white is incredibly blaring! And also thanks for the votes:) I don’t know if people realize they can vote every day.
I can’t help but feel your referencing another story here. Must be the king and his possibly dead wife. Also, Humpty must think he’s woken up somewhere…hellish.
Aquadivider -> You’re right that one of the suspected origins of Humpty Dumpty was actually a cannon. There are several other origins for humpty, but few have the detail of the cannon story :)! Humpty also appeared in “Alice: Through the Looking Glass.” So Humpty and Alice have a very unique and special connection to each other. Thanks for the feedback and such, we love it!
Auragongal -> No story in particular, but the hellish feeling you’re seeing is supposed to be there! Life for Humpty is always hard boiled now that he’s back from rotting :).
TB> Wow. That was “wow” punnage LOL!
