Thank goodness that the current victim is still alive somehow. Maybe there’s still time to save her and snap Miss Muffet out of her prey status.
The only things Sweeney Time did were something which made the woman ‘intoxicated’ and then make a few small cuts on her arm,so she would bleed. The smell of blood, as he intended, triggered Miss Muffet’s ‘spider sense’ – he wanted the woman alive (but bleeding) so Muffet would sense her as “PREY” and feed, then Muffet would be responsible for what happened to the woman. This would have worked if Alice hadn’t gotten there first, and that would have been a major victory for Sweeney. But Alice had enough time controlling ability (and the quick thinking) to foil his plan and save her. (That’s ambiguous, but he saved (in different ways) both Muffet and the ‘intended victim’.)
From the ‘genra savvy’ viewpoint I would expect this type of outcome (though not the details), but I realize that the creators are willing to ‘let the good guys lose’ occasionally. So I’ll say “Hurray for Alice! She saved the day! …at least for awhile.” With an opponent like Sweeney you take what you can get and don’t quibble about the ‘might haves’.
!I would like for one or more of the other characters to explain this to Muffet as ‘You resisted long enough, and that gave Alice time to rescue the woman. What you might have done didn’t happen, and that is to your credit.’ So both ‘Hurray Alice’ and ‘Hurray Miss Muffet!’ NOW, let’s find Sweeney!
Great explanation, Stonefoot
