ch.2, pg.80: “Busy As …”
Shards turns 2 years old on June 25th. That is a Monday and I will be posting a special pic instead of a strip on that day. I’m not sure yet if I have more planned. I’m still incredibly busy and still trying to get a buffer up before my vacation at the end of June but there are more ideas we have stewing on the backburner. There will definitely be some new additions to the “Opposition” page very soon:) Check back around Thursday!
Plot grumble: If it’s that easy to get ahead, how did they end up so far behind? Surely it’d just be a thing of Goldi gets some more brought in every couple of days or so, to keep the stocks up.
Cinderella happens to be very good at her job :). Goldie can’t collect shard dust, just steal it :). Also the area around the library just happens to be jam packed with it, but it is a finite resource. The more that is taken the less that is available for later.
Curiousity: The shard dust is part of the Magic Mirror, is it not? Wouldn’t using it for any purpose beyond mirror repair be a bad plan? Or is the shard dust not important for a full reconstruction?
Magic and magical things equate to a sum of energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed; only changed. If the dust were being destroyed by the process, it would be converted into a new form. In any form, it can be reintegrated, just like how the Mirror puts itself back together once a piece is returned. Dr. Muffet uses shard dust to triangulate a lost shard’s location. In the process Dr. Muffet uses, however, the shard dust is not destroyed. His computer program utilizes the innate link between a shard and its neighboring pieces. Once that information is found, he cannot use it to locate a new shard because whatever shards it is connected to have already been linked/located; hence the need for more dust. The number of shards any given amount of shard dust can help locate varies considerably. Dr. Muffet is confident, however, that with that much shard dust, it would last quite a while. That, and establishing the link and getting the location take a bit longer than overnight. Again, this varies based on the shard dust and how much of it has been utilized in the program.
Shard dust is important for a perfectly complete Mirror. Obviously, it can still mentate even with no shards in its framework — if you can call Velvy’s ability to converse with the inanimate a sign of mentation on the Mirror’s part. When all shards are returned, the shard dust is likely naturally drawn to the Mirror as it attempts to fully repair itself, which would take a very long time. But the Mirror is very patient and in no distress whatsoever.
I stand by my question that if she’s capable of gathering lots, can’t it be stored inside the library?
I will accept the justification of she only just thought of doing this though. (Well, in some recent timeframe.)
(And I used the wrong name. I get those two confused because I don’t see them very often. >_>)
Oh yes it can be stored once collected. They just ran out and Cinderella hasn’t been able to do this very long :).
TB is correct. Also, Cindy just recently learned how to gather shard dust. Essentially, she sings a song and tells the bees what it is and to look for it and that’s what happened in this strip, minus the singing. I didn’t show that this time.
Wow, Cindy works fast during a sort amount of time, does she ? :)
Oh god, bees! O_O
Also, Cindy in panel 3… I’m still trying to figure out if she looks completely stoned or if she just has too much hair.
She’s concentrating on getting some bees super busy! I think she looks cute.
I won’t disagree there. Even though I still think she looks stoned.
Her eyes are closed. That might help you see it better;)
I admit it was kinda fun drawing all those bees!
