“Three Heartstrings Of Gold” 54: David’s Journal, Pg. 13
Knock knock!
As a side note, My kids love to try and tell knock-knock jokes… and mostly fail at it. Cute, but I sigh, too. They’re like Brak’s penguin jokes from Spaceghost, yeesh. She’s getting better but I’ll share one with ya:
Ex.
Kyari: “Knock knock.”
Me: “Who’s there?”
Kyari: “Marionette.”
Me: “Marionette who?”
Kyari: “Marionette at your door! Haha!”
Me: “… My darling, you need some better humor. How about this… Knock knock?”
Kyari: “Who’s there?”
Me: “Freddy.”
Kyari: “Freddy who?”
Me: “F’ready for a nightmare?”
Kyari *laughs*
Opening the door for them before they broke it down. That was nice.
Pinocchio’s nose grows…
I’d mention who I thought what the form of the Ghost of Christmas Future would take for David, but pretty sure Patreon answered that. I don’t think it’s a guess anymore once you’ve seen confirmation.
Indeed!
Even I’m a bit curious as of what can the Ghost of Christmas future show the group before their departure ?
I mean how else can they truly save the story if Geppetto controls the magic of the Blue Fairy ?
Plus would Pinocchio side with the heroes to fix the story in a honest way ?
I mean wouldn’t a good boy like Pinocchio try to fix things back to the way they were ?
These answers and more are coming up:)
I will say that we will be seeing less of Cindy’s and Velvy’s journals and more of David’s and Hanstel’s, the reason being they are no longer in the action part of this adventure and because if I went and showed what every person is doing all the time, the strip would move incredibly slow:)
One thing about Pinocchio, though… He is at first very impetuous and must learn how to be a good boy. A good boy in his story must study, must listen, must work hard. Interestingly enough, that is the opposite of what Geppetto is doing. Yeah. Did that on purpose:) Geppetto is behaving lackadaisical at best. He is neither working to stop the heroes nor helping them, nor is he learning anything but just having his way and trying to “fix” A Christmas Carole however he chooses to. Pinocchio was created by his hands, and as such he is a bit of a reflection of Geppetto: back to his old story ways of doing whatever he feels like. In the story, Geppetto was not like this. The Disney portrayal was fairly accurate… except that Geppetto had a mean temper, and I mean MEAN. When he got angry, fists flew. But he also had a huge heart and was willing to forgive and love Pinocchio no matter what the puppet/boy did.
Thank you, guys, for commenting on my strips/journals, as I truly appreciate the visible sign that people read my stuff:)
“Opening the door….” (speaking for Velvy, since he isn’t here just now): The door really thinks that was nice.
Pinocchio, I think, would side with Geppetto, but might give an honest answer to “Where is the shard?” before it occurred to him that he didn’t have to answer at all.
Knock-knock jokes: My favorite is:
me: I’ve got a knock-knock joke, but it’s got a twist, so you have to start.
you: Uh, OK. Knock knock.
me: Who’s there?
you: …. (realize trick and start laughing… I hope)
(And that opening statement is actually completely true!)
[Hansel/MojoJojo mode] But I certainly would not bring up or mention those nasty ‘Mommy mommy!’ jokes, many of which are also ‘Shut Ups’, which I will also not mention. Especially one like:
“Mommy mommy! Why am I walking in circles?”
“Shut up, or I’ll nail your other foot to the floor.”
or even one like:
“Mommy, what’s a vampire?”
“Hurry and finish your soup, dear, before it clots.”

Annnnnnnnnd, I just finished reading Shards from the beginning. Including most of the comments, and many side trips to get more info on things referenced in the comics, commentary, or comments. [Spock]Fascinating![/Spock] I would have found Shards shortly after it started, but my computer fried its motherboard in May 2013, leaving me on one that took several minutes to load ONE webcomic page (and I was following 20 or 30). Now that I’ve got something decent I’ve started archive diving on one or two at a time. When I got to Selkie I noticed a few commenters who often made more rational and interesting observations than the others. One of them had a link with their ID and I followed it… to Shards. So, Jade Griffin, it was your comments on Selkie that got me here. Coincidentally (or maybe not) I originally found Selkie by backtracking from comments Dave had made on some other comic.
So now I can follow Shards on a normal schedule, regular or not, forever. (Or longer, if necessary.)
Wow, I am so glad you found us! And I apologize for it taking so long to approve you. I don’t know why but I received no alerts via email that these were awaiting moderation! Ack! But I am very happy you are here! And glad to see you found us through Selkie:) I am going through your comments right now. Also, I wasn’t checking the strips for part of this month because I work a haunted house and October is totally busy for us so apologies again :)
Not sure I should mention this, but I will.
Over the weekend, spent the time with some children. A couple girls started telling knock knock jokes, but they mainly seemed to be random words (especially from the younger one).
The older one however did say that “marionette at your door” one, this reminded me of your author comments here, so I responded with the “freddy for a nightmare” one you mentioned you used.
It made them laugh. (and this was when the “lettuce in” knock knock joke didn’t. I’m disappointed)
I definitely did not expect to hear the same joke as I read here. And I’m not sure how I feel about young children talking about Five Night’s at Freddy’s. (Although I’m told that YouTube links people to it from Minecraft videos)
Yes, as well as all the fan music videos etc. etc. We watch (or try to) every one she sees to make sure the content is okay for both her and/or our almost 5 yr old son (Kyari, our daughter, just turned 8). Believe it or not all her classmates know of it, even if they have not personally seen/played it. Yes. Blame Youtube:) It is classified as a horror game with jump scares coming out at you, etc. Not an easy game but it has a huge following and a huge backstory so, yeah, creativity at its finest:)
Is it fit for 8 year olds to watch/play it? Maybe. Maybe not. Does it have sex, blood, cursing, adult content? No. The game does not. Do videos made by fans? Some do, so watch out! Others are frickin’ fantastic and we applaud those artists:)
