I think he is focusing on encouraging and counseling her, seeing as she just admitted to deriving enjoyment from, well, killing things and drinking their blood.
Different people have different parenting styles. Cannot chastise him for that. He is doing the best in the situation that he is currently in. Nobody has had to deal with what these characters are in.
Also, that’s the kind of comment you’d expect from an extraordinarily talkative teenager with angst/pyro issues, not from a seven-year-old. Daddy’s trying to “grow-up-quick” his thinking, and some things just aren’t youger-kid compatable.

This strip somewhat exposes one of the downsides of having a cast consisting mainly of insane children.
But at least they do have people trying to help them through having their lives shattered like a broken mirror.

Hugs are essential, talking is also needed. Learning to like hurting only bad things is an advanced skill sometimes.
