Grimm fairy tales are back
Gray doesn’t sound especially promising for a shard. At least not likely to be promising anything good. And 70 feet (plus some) underground… sounds like it could be hidden in a mine (and dwarves who dig mines are quite plausible here) but then why directly under the house? (Stranger and stranger! And I bet you thought….) ;-}}

I had a different comment in mind after reading the page, but after reading your comment Stonefoot and seeing “Stranger and stranger!” instead of “Curiouser and curiouser!” as cried by Alice had me so surprised that for the moment I have completely forgotten what I was going to say.
