Maybe Pinocchio was afraid of Velveteen wasn’t due to his ick. It was a part of that and maybe due to the fact that he was a toy too and could understand what Velveteen was saying in a way ?
Cindy’s entry also brought up another question: Where are the three spirits of the story ?
Maybe the shard did chase them away like Geppetto said. That’s a good reason right ?
Sometimes life isn’t that simple, even in tales like this one.
Since Santa Claus is mentioned, I’d like to list some of his powers and available assets.
(This comic does tend to make/use composite characters, so I feel I should note that Santa Claus already is one)
Anyway, some of the reported abilities and assets of Santa Claus:
1. Bilocation. Ability to exist and act in two locations simultaneously. Secondary location has no known distance limit from the primary body.
2. Weather control. Can create and calm storms.
3. Ressurection (bringing other people back to life)
4. Magic bag with extradimensional storage space. Contains a possibly infinite amount of confectionary (he gives candy or chocolate letters to nice children), and is also used to store presents (and potentially any other items, including a broom made from willow branches).
5. Secret arctic base, with defences and cloaking technology/magic.
6. An army of loyal elven craftsmen.
7. Magic sleigh, with speed capable of visiting every house on the planet within a single night. Possibly uses temporal dilation.
8. Precognition, at least concerning weather, likely in general.
9. List containing “nice” and “naughty” deeds of all children on the planet. This list is made and given to him by the elves each year.
Wow. Where did you learn about 2 and 3? Resurrection, eh? What story is that from? And, yes, in a way I think Geppetto likens himself to Santa, but Santa he clearly is not LOL.

That first theory is a very good theory, Marcus! And, yes, we’ll get to the three spirits fairly soon:)

First three are from Saint Nicholas.
So is number 8, though some of the other characters Santa takes stuff from also seem to have precognition.
