Simple answer is that Hansel has a hard time simplifying anything. His brain is just too… expansive. And filled with big words. And a giant ego and uppity attitude doesn’t help LOL. At least he and his sister “get” each other. He never belittles her, you’ll note, nor would he ever put up with anyone else doing so. Read the side story that is still unfinished which details a shard they got in the Shards story “Rumpled Snow” and in the few pages you get, you see Goldie verbally attacking Hanstel and he would have thrown down if David and Rose Red hadn’t said anything:)
Hansel may not belittle his sister, but that is because they’re family/kin.
Still, it would be interesting to see in the near future what would happen if Hansel’s ego was slightly deflated and he was humbled a bit.
I can see just why Gretel is often needed by the team and by her brother, and that is not due to her strength although that’s a part of it.
No, it’s due to her simple innocent mind of understanding things around her and what her brother says. Also her simple ways of answering and expressing her feeling to her brother and others.
Out of all of them, you may as well say that both Velvy and Gretel are the innocent beings in the group despite their own personal problems.
Very astute observations, Marcus:) They are indeed the most innocent but only one of the heroes actually keeps her innocence throughout the entire sequence of events that shall eventually fall because hard or even tragic events can make some people grow up fast ;)
Sometimes the simplest answers come from the most unexpected people. In this case, it’s Gretel since she doesn’t usually speak out like that.
I mean didn’t she disapprove of her brother’s idea before even though it turned out to be the right one ?
Hansel should at least try to simplify his statements given that most of his teammates aren’t as intelligent as he is.

I should say, David WOULD have stepped in. Anyway, if you needed a looksee, here’s the link to it, also found in the Donation Rally section
